Quirky Hyundai Ioniq 5 Turns Heads in this EV Video Review
Hyundai's Ioniq 5 is the company's first car to be produced from the ground-up, via its new all-electric platform.
Don’t look now but auto manufacturers are having fun designing electric cars. First off, I like quirk and Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 provides this “retro-meets-future” look with its line dashes, sleek accents and a nicely integrated spoiler.
After last week’s post about finding test drives — or “butts in seats” — this car’s design should help motivate consumers to contact their local Hyundai dealer for a test drive. However, consumers will have to wait until Fall 2021 in North America, but below is a car review from the U.K.’s Jonny Smith.
Here are some quick & quirky highlights of the Ioniq 5:
Flat floor car design & the backseat sits higher than the front.
Two battery options; one comes in at 72 kWh = 298 miles* (not EPA tested yet)
0 to 60 (100 km) in 5.2 seconds with 72 kWH battery
All Wheel Drive & Rear Wheel Driver options
Two, 12-inch displays (see below)
9.8 ft. wheelbase that provides lots of room inside the car; longer in length than a full-size Range Rover!
The front seats are 30% thinner in the back and this provides more for back-seat passengers. However, the front driver seat has something special: an “ottoman.” That’s right, an ottoman for that next 15 to 20 min. charging session.
Speaking of charging, the Ioniq 5 has the capacity to receive 380 kW from ultra-fast charging stations (not there yet) and produce a 80% state of charge in 18 mins.
