How to Find Magic Dock CCS Superchargers and Free Charging Stations
PlugShare provides a filter for Magic Dock Superchargers, and this just in, drivers like to charge for free.
File this Under Handy: PlugShare has unveiled a filter identifying Magic Dock CCS Supercharger stations for the U.S., Canada and Europe (full disclosure I used to work for PlugShare). It’s been a slow go for CCS Magic Docks at Tesla SC stations in the U.S. and Canada, but I did count around 35+ charging stations via the map. From the looks, a Tesla Magic Dock Supercharging station will have one to three magic ports.
Bookmark this link to use PlugShare’s filter. For some reason, PlugShare doesn’t disclose their directories very well.
This Just In: EV owners like free DC fast charging. The Department of Energy, which also provides a handy tool on EV models, released a study of data collected from June 30, 2020, to June 30, 2023. The study details charging behavior with free vs. paid being.
Below is the DoE’s Fact of the Week Chart and some other items and they do not include charging sessions from Tesla’s Supercharger network:
Includes a total of about 2.4 million sessions
The average length of time for a paid fast-charging session was 42 minutes
Avg paid charging session energy usuage: 22 kWh of energy.
Free fast-charging sessions nearly doubled those numbers at 1 hour and 18 minutes and 42 kWh of electricity consumed.
