'Electric Fuel' Perceptions Still Being Shaped
A new white paper from Chargeway reveals that auto dealerships will sell more EV models if educational tools are present for sales and buyers. Plus, a video on home charging services.
With over a 2 percent market share in the U.S., electric cars falls under the radar for most Americans, and buried further underground is information and education on “electric fuel” or charging stations in the U.S.
However, public charging infrastructure is growing in the U.S as utilities, automakers and charging networks mature. EVgo partnered with General Motors this summer to add more than 2,700 fast charging connections throughout the U.S. over the next five years. Plus, EVgo has installed charging stations at more than 800 charginng locations over the last 10 years, including DC fast charging and Level 2 stations.

Matt Teske, ceo of Chargeway and EV driver, wants to add to the charging infrastructure momentum by educating consumers on “electric fuel,” especially in automotive dealer showrooms. Chargeway, based in Oregon, offers a software platform, mobile App and communication solution for the auto industry by way of showroom kiosks — or beacons — displaying charging station locations, incentives and related EV models.

Recently, Chargeway revealed results of a dealer showroom pilot project to CHARGED magazine that revealed EV sales increased as more charging information is presented to consumers in dealer showrooms. According to the article and white paper, “EV sales in dealerships with a Chargeway beacon had risen by 2 to 10 times compared to those at dealers with similar inventories of EVs but no beacons.”
Plus, this anecdotal evidence from an actual salesperson via the CHARGED article:
I will now be able to sell twice as many EVs in a day due to how much time the Beacon saves that I spend researching & answering detailed charging questions. Thank you for designing this extremely user-friendly device to help our dealership & many others! Thanks again! Dav at Hyundai.”
While we wait for more utilities, automotive companies and dealerships to install these kiosks in showrooms, you can add the Chargeway app to your arsenal of charging tools and get acquainted with the company’s rating system, which varies from the traditional SAE rating system.
