While waiting for my Tesla Model S 60 to arrive in 2013, I felt somewhat certain that 208 miles of EPA-rated battery pack range would suit my use case in the Chicago area especially with Tesla’s Supercharging network plans. From my perspective, I needed an electric car for local driving and commuting, maybe 120 miles roundtrip during a day, with an occasional trip to Michigan, Wisconsin or downstate Illinois.

Well, wrong. EV road trips began percolating in my mind immediately.

Fast forward to 2020, road trips in the MS60 and its 197 mile range is not a huge challenge due to Tesla’s 1,826 Supercharging stations
